About…
You have found the gateway to artwork by Keith Harder
Keith Harder has built his studio career in the disciplines of painting and drawing.
He uses a descriptive approach to winkle out the significance resonant in visual experiences. He investigates, interprets and improvises on what he finds. In recent years his practice has expanded to include other media.
For a couple of decades he has been an art studio professor at the Augustana Faculty of the University of Alberta.
“Paying Attention” has been the mandate and watchword of this art.
It attends to the experience of seeing the visual world;
to the subtle implications in such experiences;
to the cultural legacy that it stands upon; and
to the vagaries of the human condition in the present situation.
It pays with the currency of :
rigorous observation;
careful execution; and
deep reflection on the network of meanings embodied in the subject, the technique, and the material.
Over the span of a career the artistic projects here have investigated a diversity of expressive agendas: from perceptual contingencies, to narrative, to process, to form and structure. They have employed the genres of landscape, portraits, still life, the figure, interior space, and a range of subject-matter.
Rooted in painting practice, this body of work has diversified into drawing, digital imaging, sculpture and land art/installation. In all cases the form taken by these art works has been decided pragmatically, driven by some need for expression.
